In a daring and dangerous act, a foreign man was apprehended by local authorities for igniting fireworks from the window of a moving car on Jalan 2/3A Pusat Bandar Utara, Selayang yesterday.
The arrest followed the discovery of a 14-second viral video capturing the alarming incident.
Police detained a 31-year-old foreigner and impounded the Proton Waja
Sentul District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari, expressed concern over the reckless behaviour depicted in the video.
“The video clearly shows the dangerous act involved,” he stated.
Acting promptly on the circulated information, the police detained a 31-year-old foreigner and impounded the Proton Waja vehicle used during the incident.
No previous criminal record
The investigations also revealed that the suspect had no previous criminal record.
However, he was remanded at the Sentul District Police Headquarters (IPD) to assist in the ongoing inquiry, as per Section 7 of the Explosives Act 1957, reported Harian Metro.
Emphasising the severity of the offense, Assistant Commissioner Zahari highlighted, “This offense carries a seven-year prison sentence or a fine of RM10,000 or both.”
Authorities are diligently working to ensure accountability for this hazardous act that put public safety at risk.
