A woman has taken to social media to share how several people fell violently ill after having a lok lok feast at Genting Sempah in Pahang.

To add insult to injury, the food truck company allegedly refused to take any form of accountability, instead pinning the blame on the driver who accepted their booking.

Booked RM2,000 lok lok spread for 40 pax

In a lengthy Facebook post shared by Joey Loo, she wrote that during a 3-day-2-night getaway with 36 other people, she noticed a lok lok truck from a reputable company parked at a villa nearby.

Wanting to feast on some lok lok, she made a booking for 40 people and paid RM2,000 for it, where the meal began at 6pm on Feb 1.

Had food poisoning 4 hours later

Unfortunately, the lok lok feast soon turned into the start of Joey’s nightmare when more than 10 people began experiencing “extreme bouts of vomiting alongside diarrhea” at 10pm — all clear signs of food poisoning.

When I woke up the next morning, I found out that two people were in severe condition needing to go to the hospital to get drips. Others were seeking aid from clinics.

“All of my group members suffered greatly because of this incident. Some were forced to take sick days during work, and children who went to international schools had missed a few classes. Undoubtedly, all of them had suffered greatly and were at a loss financially,” she wrote.

‘Not our fault!’

Following this, Joey went out to seek a RM2,000 refund and RM3,375 in medical bills to be borne by the food truck company.

However, the food truck company denied any responsibility and said it was on the driver as he was the one who accepted Joey’s booking.

However, this didn’t seem to persuade Joey, who wrote the driver had called the company in front of her to confirm before accepting her booking.

On top of that, she added the food truck that turned up was different from the one she had seen days before.

The food truck company then claimed Joey and her friends had probably suffered food poisoning from another place, but this also didn’t make sense, with Joey noting:

Our group was split into five separate groups, some stayed in the bungalow, and we all ate different meals—some even skipped lunch—yet not a single one of us was spared from food poisoning.”

“If this particular lok lok truck had been operating at a pasar malam, how many more people would have gotten food poisoning? Would they also blame it on other food and let the matter go?”

‘Cannot be taken lightly’

Joey expressed disappointment and shock over the company’s response to the matter, calling it “irresponsible”.

She added that food poisoning “is not something to take lightly” and called upon food operators to pay more attention to food quality and hygiene.

“I am sharing this publicly to put pressure on the business because of their irresponsibility and lack of concern for hygiene. I can accept the financial loss, but what I want is empathy.”
