A ferry undergoing repairs at the Bukit Malut, Langkawi shipyard caught fire yesterday afternoon (11 Nov).
Langkawi Zone Fire Chief, Fire Chief Mohd. Fadzullah Mohd. Noor said his team received a report about the incident at 5 pm.
Three fire engines from Langkawi Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) and one from BBP Persiaran Putra were directed to help at the scene.
“We realised the fire was from the engine room of a ferry on the ramp upon arrival. It was under repair at that time.”
“Extinguishing works were carried out using water and 11 foam barrels in the first stage of extinguishing,” he said in a statement today.
According to him, as many as 12 additional foam barrels were sent to the location for the next stage.
“The fire was brought under control at 6.46 this afternoon, and the extinguishing process is still actively being carried out,” he said.
He added that no casualties were reported in the incident.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
