Yesterday, we reported of a road accident that took the lives of three young men in Melaka after the car they were in collided with a lorry.
One of the victims, Peng Zhicheng (transliteration), was a huge fan of Taiwanese singer Jay Chou and his family decided to send him off by playing and performing several songs at both the wake and funeral service.
Sang several popular Jay Chou tunes
A reporter from China Press attended the funeral service that was held today and witnessed Peng’s family and friends singing some of Chou’s most beloved songs such as 晴天 (Clear Day), 七里香 (Common Jasmine Orange), and 开不了口 (I Find It Hard To Say).

However, the pain of losing Peng was palpable, with some breaking into tears while singing near Peng’s coffin.

After the “concert” ended, Peng’s brother released a black balloon into the sky, with the rest following suit by releasing blue and white balloons and streamers to recreate the atmosphere of a concert that Peng never got to attend.

Peng’s grandfather also stood by the coffin and played the same songs on the harmonica one last time before the body was cremated.
Loved Jay Chou growing up
Speaking to China Press, Peng’s brother said both he and the victim were fans of Chou and added he personally chose the songs so that his brother could have everyone sing along with him before going into the afterlife.
“My brother had admired Jay Chou since young and always tried to get front row seats at his concerts and spent large sums on merchandise.

For him, Chou’s songs were what helped him cope with the pressures of life and work.”
Peng’s brother said the victim’s greatest wish was to get Chou’s autograph and be personally acknowledged during a concert, which sadly never came true.
He shared that Peng once mentioned that if Chou held a concert in Singapore or Malaysia at the end of this year or early next year, they would attend together.

“In the future, I will still bring a large poster with my brother’s portrait to the concert, hoping to request a song on his behalf,” he added.
Our condolences to Peng’s family and we hope they will heal from the tragedy soon.
