A total of three young men tragically lost their lives following an accident which saw the car they were travelling in colliding with a lorry in Melaka last Sunday (Apr 26).
According to China Press, the accident took place along Jalan Felda Hutan Percha at about 3.40pm.
Alor Gajah district police chief superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said initial investigations found that the car, travelling from Melaka towards Segamat, Johor, lost control before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with a lorry coming from Tebong heading to Cheng.
A 24-year-old sitting in the rear right passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 23-year-old car driver and a 24-year-old passenger died while receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka.
Another passenger, a 23-year-old woman, is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka.
The lorry driver and his attendant didn’t escape unscathed as well and were sent to Hospital Tampin for treatment.
Trio went to Indonesia together
The victims were identified as Chen Jinhan, Peng Zhicheng, and Huang Weijun (all transliteration).
China Press reported that the trio were part of an 11-person group which travelled to Indonesia on Apr 16.
When the group returned to Malaysia on Apr 24, Chen, Peng, Huang, and a female friend stayed over at KL for a night before driving back to Johor.
However, little did the rest of the group know that they would lose three good friends and were informed of the trio’s demise by a bystander who contacted them using one of the victims’ phones.
Deeply mourned by loved ones
The Chinese daily also reported that Huang worked at an auto parts dealership, while Chen was studying logistics at INTI International University. As for Peng, he worked in e-commerce.
All three of them were described as caring and filial individuals by their families, who were deeply grieved by their deaths.
Several memorabilia were also placed near the victims’ coffins, such as posters of Jay Chou’s upcoming concert in Australia for Peng, and a guitar for Chen.
