A 29-year-old woman in Miri, Sarawak is now being probed by police after she lied to them about being robbed last week.
She now faces up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both if found guilty under Section 182 of the Penal Code for intentionally providing false information to a public servant, reported The Borneo Post.

Allegedly robbed while pooing
In a statement by Miri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, he said woman filed a police report at 1.58am on May 28, where she claimed she was robbed near Miri Gospel Church at about 10pm on May 27.
He added that in the report, the woman said she had stopped her car by the roadside and was taking a dump by the roadside when four men travelling in a four-wheel-drive vehicle appeared.
She claimed one of the men pointed a pistol at her before taking a gold necklace, a gold ring, a gold bracelet and RM350 in cash before fleeing the scene.

The robbery reported led to the woman losing around RM3,130 and an investigation under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery was launched.
Inconsistencies
Mohd Farhan said during the investigation, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Miri District Police Headquarters found several “holes” in the woman’s story and became suspicious.

When they dug in deeper and presented evidence to the woman, she caved in and admitted to fabricating the robbery.
As for the stolen jewellery and cash, police found that they were still in the woman’s possession.
Mohd Farhan called upon the public to not lodge false police reports for personal gain or self-interest as it wastes public resources and jeopardises investigations.
