Fearing the wrath of his girlfriend if she found out that he had gone to the nightclub behind her back, a man in Kulim decided to file a fake police report to cover his tracks.
Unfortunately, his story fell through and he eventually confessed to making up the story, leading to him being charged in court.
Lied about phone being stolen
According to Sin Chew Daily, the man, Chen Ronghui (transliteration), filed a police report on May 7, where he claimed he was outside a nasi kandar restaurant in Kulim Hi-Tech Park at around 1.30am when two men on a motorcycle snatched his phone.

However, police became suspicious when carrying out investigations and summoned Chen at 7pm on the same day to record his statement.
During questioning, Chen broke down and admitted that he had fabricated the story and filed a false police report.
The reason? He didn’t want his girlfriend to find out he had gone to a nightclub in Butterworth to drink and lost his phone while there.

Fined RM1,000
Chen was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which deals with providing false information to a public servant and provides an imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.
He pleaded guilty when the charge was read out to him at the Kulim Magistrate’s Court yesterday (May 26).
His lawyer pleaded for a lenient sentence, saying that Chen, a first-time offender, was remorseful and is a single man who needed to care for his elderly parents.

However, the prosecution argued that a heavy sentence must be handed out as Chen’s actions had wasted public funds and manpower.
Chen was fined RM1,000 and faces two months in jail if he fails to pay.
