For Malaysians, the more ingredients there are for their nasi lemak, the better. After all, who can turn down an extra serving of sambal or ikan bilis (anchovies)?
A woman was left feeling amused after her joy of seeing what she thought were extra ingredients for her nasi lemak turned out to be an illusion, thanks to a piece of newspaper used to wrap her meal.

Extra toppings?
In a Threads post that has garnered over 7,000 likes at the time of writing, a woman named Natasha shared a photo of her nasi lemak which she bought from a stall near her home in Shah Alam.
Speaking to WeirdKaya, she said she was eating her meal when she saw that her nasi lemak came with an extra serving of egg and cucumbers.
Overjoyed by her discovery, Natasha proceeded to try and pick up the egg with her hand but was confused when she couldn’t do so.

“The plastic layer was quite clear and the print looked so real that I actually tried to pick up the egg and cucumber, only to realise it was a picture on the newspaper.”
When asked what was her reaction to the illusion, Natasha said she couldn’t stop laughing due to the fact that she was starving.
She added that she observed most nasi lemak nowadays often come with “missing ingredients”, such as having no peanuts and anchovies, or only having a small slice of egg.
Amusement
Netizens were tickled by the post and couldn’t help but laugh along too, with one joking that the makcik selling the nasi lemak had picked the perfect newspaper wrapping to ‘scam’ Natasha.

Another said the incident was the embodiment of the phrase ‘for illustration purposes only’.
