Nasi lemak is a quintessentially Malaysian dish loved by locals and tourists alike, but this once affordable meal has seen a steady climb in price due to inflation.
A woman recently took to social media to share how a stall in Johor is selling nasi lemak at awfully high rates, leaving many shocked by it.
Price range of RM4.50 to RM25
In a Threads post, the OP posted a photo of a menu listing the various iterations of nasi lemak being sold at an undisclosed stall in Johor.
Based on the photo, the cheapest option on the menu was nasi lemak kosong, which was priced at RM4.50.

If customers wanted to have “premium” ingredients to go with their nasi lemak, they would have to pay either one of the following:
- Fried egg (RM6.50)
- Chicken (RM11.90)
- Cow’s lung sambal (RM13.50)
- Beef rendang (RM14.50)
- Grilled lamb (RM18)
The most expensive item on the menu was nasi lemak special at RM25, but it’s not known what ingredients are included.
The OP also posted a photo of lontong kering options being offered by the same stall, where it shared the same pricing as nasi lemak.

In the caption, the OP expressed shock over the menu’s pricing by quipping: “Welcome to Johor Darul SGD”, which is a cheeky wordplay on the state’s honorific title of “Johor Darul Ta’zim”.
Mixed reactions
In the comment section, there were some netizens who felt that there was nothing amiss with the pricing and said it was “normal”.

However, this stance was met with backlash from some, who said customers shouldn’t “normalise” exorbitant practices or give vendors an excuse to increase prices.

Meanwhile, one netizen said the prices were caused by Singaporeans visiting Johor, who have been blamed in the past for driving inflation.
