Johni Satur, a 57-year-old former rubber tapper, just became a millionaire after winning RM1 million in the 99th BSN SSP Bonanza Draw, according to Sinar Harian.
Johni bought a Premium Savings Certificate from the Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) in 2022 using his retirement savings, on his son’s advice.
“It still feels like a dream that I won RM1 million,” he said.
Too dreamy, thought to be a scam
At first, he thought the call from BSN was a scam and hesitated to respond.
The prize was officially given to him at his home in Kampung Lasau Minunsud, with BSN’s Head of Strategic Communications, Aizurra Mellissa Muzammil, presenting it.
Johni used to make RM500 a month as a rubber tapper, which wasn’t enough for his family’s needs.
Now, he plans to build a new house for his family and pay for his children’s education. Johni has five kids, aged between seven and 30 years.
His second child, Romexh Johni, 27, who studied tourism at UiTM in Kota Kinabalu, suggested keeping the money in a BSN account for safety, as he was worried about scams. “I didn’t know about this contest until I was at the BSN counter,” Romexh added.
