An unfortunate incident occurred when an elderly Singaporean woman became the target of a snatch theft attempt in Batu Caves.

A motorcyclist attempted to steal her gold chain and, in the process, caused her to fall to the ground.

Thankfully, the lady sustained only minor injuries from the incident. The Gombak District Police are currently investigating the case and are on the lookout for the suspect.

CCTV Footage Reveals Selangor Snatch Theft Recently, CCTV footage of the snatch theft incident in Malaysia circulated on social media. The timestamp on the video indicates that the event took place at 10:50 am on Tuesday (18 Apr).

The footage shows a motorcyclist observing an elderly couple from a distance before approaching the woman and attempting to grab her necklace.

The woman is subsequently dragged to the ground before the thief flees on his motorcycle. Her male companion quickly comes to her aid.

Singaporean victim suffers minor injuries

The Gombak District Police Headquarters addressed the viral video in a statement released on their Facebook page. They confirmed that the incident occurred at Jalan SBC 1, Taman Sri Batu Caves in Selangor.

According to the police, the motorcyclist failed to successfully steal the gold chain, as it fell onto the road after being pulled from the woman’s neck. Despite this, the police are actively searching for the individual responsible.

The suspect’s identity remains unknown as their face was obscured by a helmet during the incident. However, the police have determined that the motorcyclist was riding a blue Yamaha 135 motorcycle.

If found guilty of attempted robbery, the motorcyclist may face a fine and up to seven years of imprisonment under Section 393 of Malaysia’s Penal Code.

The police reported that the victim, a 64-year-old Singaporean woman, was walking with her husband at the time of the incident. Fortunately, her injuries were limited to her knees and right hand.

In their statement, the police urged the public to share any information they may have regarding the case. This incident serves as a reminder for those who wear jewelry to remain vigilant, particularly when traveling in foreign countries.
