Behind the scenes of celebrity Chef Wan’s renowned restaurant, De.Wan 1958, a recent social media post has stirred controversy, revealing alleged major pay cuts and denied overtime claims for non-managerial staff.
A viral post on social media shed light on the plight of non-managerial employees at De.Wan, claiming they were receiving only RM1,500, with additional allegations that overtime claims were being dismissed.
‘Employees are lacking in skills, are not disciplined’
The public outcry reached Chef Wan himself, prompting a response on Instagram.
Chef Wan, renowned for his culinary expertise, addressed the accusations in an Instagram post, asserting that he is not directly responsible for the operational aspects of the restaurant.
“I am merely responsible for creating the menu, maintaining the quality of the food, and being a partner,” he clarified.
In an attempt to provide clarity, Chef Wan delved into the reasons behind the alleged pay cuts.
He stated, “I was told that the employees are lacking in skills, are not disciplined, and some even cheated the company. We investigated.”
Chef Wan questioned the credibility of these claims, asking, “Do I look like someone who will cheat?”
To counter the negative publicity, Chef Wan shared an official statement from the General Manager of Chef Wan Group of Restaurants (CWGR).
The statement assured the public that the welfare of employees is a top priority and refuted the allegations of unreasonable pay cuts as “purely defamation.”
