Malaysians are generally considered to be very kind and generous individuals when it comes to giving help to the disable and less fortunate. Sadly, there are times when that kindness is being taken advantage of.
A woman was flabbergasted to see a rendang seller who was supposedly wheelchair-bound walking around like a normal person and later took to social media to rant how she felt robbed of her money and kindness.
‘Disabled’ rendang seller seen walking normally on his feet
In a Facebook video posted by Eja Isa on Thursday (Aug 1), it showed a man folding up his wheelchair before loading it into his car.
While it seemed to be a harmless act, the story behind it turned out to be way sneakier than anyone could’ve expected.
According to Eja, she wrote in the caption that the man was pushing himself around in a wheelchair along with a bandaged leg in her housing area last week.
Taking pity on him, she proceeded to buy two packets of beef rendang from him after she heard him crying out pitifully outside her gate.
I bought two packets from him for RM25 but all I got was a tiny piece of meat. At that moment, I knew I had been scammed.
To further add insult to injury, Eja later discovered that her kindness was grossly misplaced when she crossed paths with the man, where she saw him up and standing on his two feet, confirming the fact that he was never disabled in the first place.
“I suppose their modus operandi is simple…they pretend to be disabled to evoke pity and then scam others to buy mediocre goods.
“I pity those who run a business honestly. To those who do sales like (the rendang seller), is it worth it?” she questioned in the caption.
