Many Malaysians were left surprised after discovering a lesser-known function of the red ‘emergency’ button found at Petronas petrol stations.
Turns out, this button isn’t just for accidents or spills—it can also be used to report foreign drivers filling up their tanks with RON95, the subsidized yellow fuel meant exclusively for Malaysian citizens.
A staff member recently revealed that it doubles as a way to report misconduct, such as foreign vehicles—identified by their license plates from countries —illegally using RON95.
In the video, the staff explains that the red ‘emergency’ button at Petronas petrol stations can be used in three situations: during a fire, in the event of an oil spillage, or to report foreign vehicles with non-Malaysian license plates misusing subsidized RON95 fuel.
By pressing the button, the fuel pump automatically shuts off, allowing you to notify Petronas staff about the situation.
This ensures quick action to prevent non-Malaysian drivers from accessing the subsidized fuel.
