Getting into an accident is no pleasant business, especially more so if one of the parties decides to flee from the scene.
A woman recently reached out to WeirdKaya to share how she and her boyfriend got caught in a hit-and-run accident involving a RapidKL bus last year.
Couple’s new car gets damaged by RapidKL bus
Speaking to WeirdKaya, the woman, who simply wanted to be known as Ms. Lee, said the incident took place on Nov 12, 2023.
While waiting at a red light on Jalan Tun Perak, my boyfriend and I were involved in a traffic accident with a RapidKL bus, where it ran the red light and collided with the left front corner of our brand-new Toyota Cross.
“The driver then chose to flee the scene without stopping to address the incident,” she said.
A police report was later lodged at the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) on the same day.
Ms. Lee also provided footage of the accident, where the RapidKL bus was indeed seen running the red light ahead of it and colliding with her car.
However, the Toyota Cross also appeared to have crossed the white line as well and when inquired about it, Ms. Lee said it was an “angle issue” and insisted that the car had stopped when the light turned red.
Claimed RapidKL turned a deaf ear
Ms. Lee also claimed that she tried reaching out to RapidKL’s customer service to provide them with the photos and video of the accident as well as the police report but heard nothing from them.
To make matters worse, she was told by the authorities and insurance companies that due to some ”unwritten rules“, she couldn’t claim any compensation from RapidKL and was left to bear the repair costs herself, which amounted to RM5,542.96.
“This unjust situation has left me feeling utterly helpless and frustrated. I hope my experience will help garner support in my fight for justice,” she said.
WeirdKaya has reached out to RapidKL for comment and we will update this article once they respond.
