In a move to maintain religious harmony within the country, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has recently unveiled its new 24-hour hotline for the public to file a complaint regarding insults levied towards Islam.
This was announced by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar during an event yesterday (May 2).
JAKIM sets up 24-hour hotline for complaints about insults to Islam
In the announcement, Mohd Na’im said JAKIM will join forces with State Islamic Religious Departments (Jain), the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and other relevant parties in order to address the issue of Islam being insulted on social media.
The Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) is fully committed in safeguarding the sanctity and dignity of Islam. Anyone found to be insulting Islam must be brought to justice as a lesson to all.
“Any form of provocation and extreme actions must be stopped. Unity is a blessing that must be maintained to achieve the essence of Malaysia Madani,” he said.
How does the 24-hour hotline work?
JAKIM later took to its Facebook account to show Malaysians how they can make use of the hotline should they come across an insulting remark about Islam.
Netizens can file a complaint at any time of the day via WhatsApp at 017-3234533 or email at aduan@islam.gov.my.Â
They are also reminded to fill up a form via this link so that JAKIM can initiate investigations and take action if necessary.
