While it’s common knowledge that one’s not supposed to sleep on the job, but there are times where we might be so exhausted and need to catch a quick nap.
A man in Jiangsu, China, who worked at a chemical company for 20 years found himself being booted out all because he decided to rest while at work.
China employee takes 1-hour nap at work, gets fired
According to NetEase News, the man surnamed Zhang was feeling tired due to driving late the night before.
Thus, he decided to catch on some sleep by napping at his work table for an hour. Furthermore, he had also signed a form which acknowledged that the company was aware of his actions.
To Zhang’s shock, the company deemed his 1-hour nap as a serious violation of company policy, even going as far as to consult the labour union for their opinion before firing him.
Files legal action against company
Following his termination, Zhang filed a lawsuit against the company, arguing that his dismissal was unlawful.
Eventually, the court ruled that the company had violated the country’s labour laws and ordered them to pay Zhang over 350,000 yuan (approx. RM215,000) in compensation.
Netizens were also firmly on Zhang’s side, with many sympathising with him and slamming the company he worked at for 20 years for firing him over such a trivial matter.
They also called upon the company to practice more humane and flexible working measures when it comes to dealing with its workers.
