National shuttler Cheah Liek Hou is officially a two-time Paralympics gold medalist after he defeated Indonesia’s Suryo Nugroho in the men’s singles SU5 (upper body impairment) final.
The 36-year-old cruised to victory over Nugroho, whom he previously defeated in the group stage, with a 21-13, 21-15 score in two straight sets at the Adidas Arena in Port de la Chapelle today (Sept 2).

Halfway through the second set, Nugroho collapsed in pain on the court after landing awkwardly on his right knee. However, he refused to let the pain deter him and continued to fight on, where he eventually lost to Liek Hou.

Liek Hou previously won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics after defeating Nugroho’s compatriot Dheva Anrimusthi, making him the first Malaysian athlete to snag a medal in para-badminton.
Congratulations to Liek Hou and thank you again for representing Malaysia at the Paralympics and making us proud!
