Malaysia has secured its first medal at the Paris Paralympics, thanks to sprinter Eddy Bernard.
The 23-year-old athlete from Beluran, Sabah, made history by claiming the bronze in the T44 men’s 100m race at the iconic Stade de France Stadium on Monday (Sept 2).
Eddy’s remarkable feat saw him cross the finish line in 11.77 seconds, earning him a well-deserved spot on the podium.
This achievement not only brought glory to Malaysia but also marked a significant personal milestone for Eddy.
According to The Star, Eddy was born with a small right leg and a disjointed finger, yet he has consistently defied the odds throughout his athletic career.”
In fact, he managed to break his personal best of 11.77 seconds, a time he previously set during the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe last May.
The race was fiercely contested, with South Africa’s Mpumelelo Mhlongo taking the gold with a blistering time of 11.12 seconds.
Meanwhile, Luis Vives Suares secured the silver medal, clocking in at 11.20 seconds.
