Toilets are a common amenity that can be found at most public places as it’s the only spot where we can answer the call of Nature privately and without causing a huge mess.
However, there are certain shopping malls in Malaysia where one has to pay in order to use the toilet, and one particular mall turned heads with its unusual set-up.
Cashless pay toilet spotted at Solaris Mont Kiara
Taking to the subreddit r/Malaysia to share this rather peculiar sight, a netizen with the username u/tetsorou posted several photos of a cashless pay toilet he saw at Solaris Mont Kiara.
As seen from the photos, a turnstile is placed right at the entrance leading to the toilet, where one is required to make payment either via debit, credit card or the contactless QR code pay system.
Another photo showed that the fee was priced at RM1.20 per entry.
This set-up unsurprisingly came as a shock for the OP, who called it an “abomination”.
I normally don’t have a problem with paying for toilets, but the fact that this has a card reader on it is just so ….mind boggling. And the fact that a public toilet has a system like this and not at LRT stations is crazy.
Unreasonable?
The post has since sparked a discussion among netizens, who weighed in on the matter in the comment section.
One asked how would the OKU (disabled) be able to get through with the turnstile in place.
Another sarcastically commented that the toilet should be squeaky clean where one can “eat off the floor”, not have a horrendous smell, have a gold-plated toilet seat ready, as well as someone tasked with washing the user’s bottom.
Another seemed taken aback by the RM1.20 entrance fee, adding that fancy places in KL won’t charge shoppers more than RM0.50 to use the toilet.
