It is not every day that you see two ambulances testing their speed on one of Malaysia’s most famous racetracks.
A video showing two ambulances having a playful race at the Sepang International Circuit has caught the attention of social media users.
The clip was uploaded by a Malaysian paramedic on his Instagram account, with the text: “POV: Ambulance Grand Prix in Sepang F1 Circuit before the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix.”
One ambulance overtakes the other
In the video, one ambulance can initially be seen driving ahead on the circuit.
However, the ambulance behind soon catches up, overtakes it and moves into the lead, making the moment look like an unexpected mini Grand Prix.
Thankfully, there was no emergency involved. It was simply a friendly and controlled race held after an event at the circuit had ended.
Speaking exclusively to WeirdKaya, the paramedic explained that the moment took place during the K Car Global 24 Hours Endurance Race at the Sepang International Circuit last year.
The ambulance company he was working for had been hired as the event’s main medical team, and he was one of the paramedics on duty.
Teams allowed to tour the circuit after event
Once the endurance race ended, the race teams, safety cars and ambulances joined a parade around the circuit.
The race director later allowed the medical team to bring their ambulances onto the track as well.
What started as a casual drive around the circuit soon turned into something more entertaining.
“We used the opportunity to pusing pusing around the track, but my buddies got excited and asked me to race the other ambulance playfully, so I did,” he shared.
The result was the amusing race captured in the Instagram video, with one ambulance taking the lead before the other overtook it and pulled ahead.
A memorable experience for the paramedic
According to the paramedic, his company had also provided ambulance and driver support whenever requested by the Sepang circuit team even before the endurance event.
However, being allowed to drive an ambulance around the track was still a special experience.
