A retail worker in Klang has resigned after claiming that her newly appointed cluster manager insulted her in a staff WhatsApp group when she informed the team that she was taking medical leave.
Speaking exclusively to WeirdKaya, the woman said the incident was not the first unpleasant interaction she had experienced with the manager.
Screenshots shared with WeirdKaya showed messages allegedly sent by the manager, including remarks such as “bloody d*** people”, “selfish p*****” and “don’t work retail”.
Often worked 12 hour shifts due to staff shortage
The woman said she joined the company as a sales assistant on Nov. 7, 2025.
As retail work was new to her, she said she initially enjoyed the job and gained plenty of experience while working there.
She also claimed that she put considerable effort into helping the company grow and was told that she could receive incentives and eventually be promoted to a supervisor.
However, she said the Klang outlet only had two employees.
Whenever her colleague was on medical leave, annual leave or an off day, she allegedly had to cover the outlet alone from 9.30am to 9.30pm.
According to her, the employees had repeatedly informed the management that the outlet required more staff, but no additional employee was hired.
“Working alone for 12 hours for two or three days was causing us a lot of mental stress,” she said.
Claimed she rarely took medical leave
Despite the challenging working conditions, the woman said she rarely took medical leave and was usually punctual.
She claimed that she had only taken medical leave four times throughout her nine months with the company.
She also said she would only seek treatment at government clinics or hospitals and would normally arrive at work between 20 and 30 minutes early.
To support her account, she shared a medical certificate from a government hospital as well as a photograph showing her receiving treatment through an intravenous drip.
However, she claimed that even after submitting the medical certificate, the manager did not apologise for the way he had spoken to her.
“He has not apologised for speaking rudely to me until today,” she said.
The situation allegedly escalated when she informed the staff WhatsApp group that she was experiencing a sudden medical emergency.
In a message sent at 5.42am, she told the group that she could not report for work due to health reasons and would submit her medical certificate later.
Several hours later, the manager allegedly asked what health issue she was facing before instructing her to open the store and wait for a replacement.
He then allegedly accused the employees of being selfish and playing games.
According to the screenshots, he also told her to work selling newspapers if she wanted to take medical leave and added, “Don’t work retail.”
Manager allegedly contacted her during her off day
The employee said she had another uncomfortable encounter with the same manager on July 9, while she was on her off day.
She said she received a call involving the manager and one of her coworkers. Although she did not answer the first call, she picked up the second one out of courtesy.
At the time, she was driving on a highway with her family and had placed the call on loudspeaker.
She claimed that the manager introduced himself as the newly appointed cluster head overseeing three branches before accusing her of clocking in on her off day.
However, she said the background was noisy and she could not properly hear or concentrate on the conversation while driving.
She eventually ended the call after informing him that she was driving and was on her off day.
In messages sent afterwards, the manager allegedly replied, “I don’t care” and “You think I care about your off day.”
The woman maintained that she had attendance records and other evidence showing when she reported for work and where she was during her off day.
She also told the manager to check the outlet’s CCTV footage.
Resigned following the incidents
The woman said the interactions caused her considerable stress and affected her health.
She later submitted her resignation letter, adding that this was allegedly not the first time the manager had treated her rudely or attacked her personally.
The employee said she decided to share her experience as she felt that the staff shortage and the way she was spoken to had become too difficult to endure.
