Reshuffle in Anwar’s Cabinet

One of the major changes to Anwar’s Cabinet was former Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad taking over the Health Ministry portfolio from Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

He previously held the portfolio for about two years before the Pakatan Harapan government collapsed in February 2020.

Another major shakeup was deputy finance minister II Steven Sim being promoted to Minister of Human Resources to replace V Sivakumar, who had been dogged by corruption accusations in recent weeks.

Taking Sim’s place will be Employees Provident Fund (EPF) CEO Amir Hamzah Azizan, while Lim Hui Ying saw her portfolio change from Deputy Education Minister to Deputy Finance Minister.

The Communications and Digital Ministry was also split into two parts, where Gobind Singh is to share it with current Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Started off with 28 ministers

The Cabinet, which was formed in December 2022, consisted of 28 ministers and 27 deputy ministers, which included Anwar Ibrahim and his two Deputy Prime Ministers, Zahid Hamidi and Fadillah Yusof.

However, that figure decreased to 27 after Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub passed away on July 23, where the position is officially now being held by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Duties) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, reported The Star.

The newly-appointed ministers will later be sworn in at the Istana Negara at 2.30pm today.
