Anwar: Latecomers & Lazy Civil Servants Not Eligible For 13% Salary Increment

Recently, our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, brought joy to all civil servants with an exciting announcement. He revealed that salaries will increase by over 13% by year’s end.

Following this announcement, he also made it clear that civil servants who demonstrate laziness or are consistently late to work will not eligible for the salary increase.

He shared this through a post on his personal Facebook page, which he also discussed during his speech at the Workers’ Day 2024 celebration event held yesterday (May 1).

“I emphasised that, following this announcement, any civil servant who does not demonstrate good performance, is lazy, or frequently arrives late to work, will not be eligible for the salary increase,” he wrote.

Other important matters he underscored was the government’s commitment to raising salaries to ensure that the minimum income for civil servants surpasses RM2,000 per month.

Also, Anwar mentioned that the governments of Sabah and Sarawak had agreed to amend their states’ labor ordinances to align with the Employment Act 1955 used in the peninsula, and this will be presented at the next Parliament session.

Furthermore, he emphasised the need for the private sector, particularly those enjoying substantial profits, to prioritize equitable treatment of their employees by offering improved wage rates.
