Ammonia Gas Leak From Lorry At Highway Toll Exit Near Seremban Sends 3 To Hospital

The victims suffered breathing difficulties due to the gas leak.
Three individuals were rushed to hospital after an ammonia gas leak from a lorry transporting gas cylinders caused breathing difficulties at a highway toll exit this afternoon.

According to an official statement by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Negeri Sembilan, the incident occurred at around 2.40pm when a lorry carrying 15 ammonia gas cylinders experienced a leak from one of the tanks while passing a toll exit along the northbound stretch of the highway.

As a result of the leak, three victims suffered breathing difficulties. They were identified as an Indian male highway security personnel, a Malay female toll booth staff member, and a Chinese male lorry driver. All three were sent to hospital for medical treatment.

Following the incident, immediate response measures were taken, including the temporary closure of the affected toll exit to prevent further risk to road users.

According to the Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department, firefighters arrived at the scene and promptly covered the damaged ammonia cylinder with a wet cloth while awaiting contractors to transfer all gas cylinders to a safer location.

Situation under control by 3pm

The situation was brought under control by 3.05pm, with authorities confirming that the area was safe and that no further threat was posed to the public or surrounding traffic.

A total of 17 firefighters from Seremban and Seremban 2 Fire and Rescue stations were deployed, along with a fire rescue tender, an emergency medical rescue vehicle, and a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) unit to assist in the operation.
