Adeline Chang is known on social media for a series of controversial actions that have drawn significant public scrutiny, and here’s another one.
Reportedly, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced an investigation into Adeline Chang for allegedly posting a photo of a minor on Facebook with explicit caption.
In collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police, MCMC revealed this through a press statement posted on their Facebook page yesterday (June 23).
In the statement, they stated that they recorded a statement from a social media user at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters on Friday (June 21).
This recording follows a complaint received by the MCMC regarding the owner of the Facebook account ‘Adeline Chang,’ who is believed to have uploaded a picture of a child accompanied by an offensive caption.
Previously, the MCMC had issued a Notice of Attendance to the suspect as per standard procedure.
Additionally, a mobile phone and SIM card, believed to belong to the suspect and used to upload the mentioned content, were seized to aid in the investigation.
The investigation is conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year, or both, and a further fine of RM1,000 for each day the offence continues, upon conviction.
This section prohibits the transmission of communications through network facilities or application services that are offensive, indecent, obscene, menacing, or annoying, with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass another person.
Furthermore, the MCMC reminds the public to always be cautious before uploading or sharing any content, especially content involving children.
They stated they are committed to raising awareness to protect children’s safety through cooperation with various parties and ensuring strict action is taken against those involved in wrongdoing towards children.
