An elderly man was found dead in the kitchen of his home in Menglembu, Perak yesterday (Apr 19) after neighbours complained of a rotting odour emitting from the unit.
The public has since been urged to assist the authorities in tracking down his family members so that he could be laid to rest.
Believed to have been dead for 3 days
In a Facebook post by Menglembu assemblyperson Steven Chaw, he said the victim was identified as 81-year-old Chan Yin Chee.
China Press reported that neighbors noticed a foul odor and alerted the authorities. Police later found Chan dead in the kitchen with no shirt on.

They also noticed that the body had shown signs of darkening and swelling, leading them to suspect that he had been dead for three days.
Trying to locate family members
Chaw told China Press that Chan had previously received food aid from charitable groups such as community soup kitchens.
However, no complete record of his personal details was ever made as he did not stay after receiving the aid.
Chaw added that several methods were used to locate his family members such as combing through the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) system using Chan’s MyKad number.

However, the system only provided his spouse’s details and two contact numbers which were unreachable.
Chaw said he hopes Chan’s family will be alerted of of the incident soon and step forward to make funeral arrangements.
He also urged those with further information to contact him directly or the Menglembu police station at 05-281 0205.
