According to China Press, the victim was 72-year-old Zhang Rongqing (transliteration), who was driving a school bus with three students onboard.
However, he reportedly suffered a heart attack while driving, causing him to lose control of the school bus and crash it into a tree before losing consciousness.
Thankfully, none of the students were injured and were later brought home by their respectively families.
The accident occurred at around 4pm at the residential area located at Taman Petani Jaya in Sungai Petani, Kedah yesterday (Jan 29).
Had a history of heart disease
While some passersby tried to save Zhang’s life by performing CPR on him, he was no longer breathing at the time and he was pronounced dead by medical officers who later arrived at the scene.
Zhang’s 17-year-old son said his father had a history of heart disease and relied on medication to manage his condition.
“He usually takes students to school in the morning, rests at home after fetching them back in the afternoon, and then goes out again at 6pm to pick them up.
“We received news of the incident from a friend and quickly rushed to the scene. My older brother has been informed and is now rushing over all the way from Ipoh.
“As for my older sister, she’s currently in labour so we have decided not to break the news to her yet,” he said.
Our condolences to Zhang’s family for their loss and may the victim rest in peace.
