In a surprising turn of events, Abdul Halim Muda, a 67-year-old resident of Kampung Sungai Ular in Terengganu, found himself face to face with a king cobra in his own home.
What initially seemed like a mere shadow or product of imagination turned out to be a very real threat lurking in his midst.
Man mistakes Cobra for shadow or imagination
Abdul Halim recounts that, at first, he dismissed the appearance of a cobra’s head shadow as an illusion.
However, suspicion prompted him to seek the assistance of one of his children to investigate.
The first search yielded no results, but a subsequent inspection of another bedroom uncovered the dangerous reptile hidden away.
The discovery unfolded around 6.50 pm, prompting immediate concern for the safety of Abdul Halim’s eight other family members, reported Berita Harian.
Fourth time’s the charm
Fearing the potential danger posed by the unwelcome visitor, the family promptly contacted the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) for assistance.
Abdul Halim expressed gratitude for his instincts, stating that it was the fourth time a snake had entered his home, but never before of the king cobra species.
“Alhamdulillah, fortunately, I had an instinct to ask my children to check the bedroom because at first it was only a shadow, but it turned out to be true,” he remarked.
APM Team captures 4-meter-long King Cobra
Responding to the distress call, Captain Mohd Zabri Abd Razak, the Hulu Terengganu District Civil Defense Officer, mobilized a team of five members to address the situation.
Arriving at the scene by 7.10 pm, the team efficiently captured the four-meter-long, 20-kilogram king cobra within 10 minutes.
Currently, the captured serpent is being held temporarily at the Hulu Terengganu District APM office.
The APM plans to release the snake back into its natural habitat, situated far from residential areas, ensuring the safety of both the reptile and the local community.
