In just within a span of less than a month, there has been a total of two instances of elderly drivers crashing their cars into coffeeshops due to human error or health issues.
Just yesterday, another case of an elderly driver ploughing the car right into a kopitiam occurred last night in Klang.
60yo M’sian steps gas pedal by mistake and crashes car into kopitiam
Sin Chew Daily reported that the accident occurred near 11pm at a kopitiam located at the commercial area of Bukit Tinggi in Klang.
The driver, a 60-year-old man, had finished having his tea at another coffeeshop and went to get his car. However, he stepped on the accelerator by mistake, causing the Proton Saga to ram straight into the kopitiam, where it crashed into several stalls located inside.
Fortunately, the kopitiam was closing soon and the stall owners and customers had already gone home. No one, including the driver, was hurt by the accident.
3 stalls destroyed by crash
The kopitiam owner, a woman surnamed Huang, told Sin Chew Daily that although no one was hurt, three stalls were destroyed by the crash, meaning that the stall owners will not be able to operate for the time being.
She added that a tow truck later came to remove the Proton Saga from the scene and that she and her workers stayed back until midnight to clean up the mess.
Huang also said she plans to file a police report regarding the incident tonight.
We’re relieved that no one was hurt by the accident and we hope elderly drivers will be more careful in the future!
