Having an illness for a long period of time can take a toll on one’s physical and mental health as it may cause the patient to feel like a burden to those taking care of them.
Tragically, a man in Sungai Petani decided to end his life in a gruesome manner by slitting his left wrist and slowly bleed to death after he reportedly was unable to cope with his illness any longer.
Often called wife at 9am
China Press reported that the victim was 58-year-old Huang Yuhua (transliteration), who was married and had a 32-year-old daughter who’s currently estranged and never maintained contact since 2016 due to misunderstandings.
Huang had undergone a surgery on June 12 and was sent home to rest, where he carried a urine bag with him everywhere. However, his condition deteriorated the next day, where he experienced difficulties in urinating and suffered from severe pain, where his wife sent him to the hospital on the motorbike.
Additionally, Huang would usually drive his wife to work everyday but couldn’t do so after falling ill, leaving her to do it alone. Nonetheless, Huang still called his wife around 9am every morning to ensure her safe arrival at her workplace.
Slits wrist and bleeds out
On the morning of the incident, Huang called his wife as usual at 9am. However, when he didn’t call again after two to three hours as he used to, his wife asked a neighbour to check on him.
Unfortunately, her worst fears came true after she was informed that Huang had died and she was unable to accept the news as she had just spent quality time with him the night before by watching TV.
She told China Press that Huang was often tormented by his illness and had to take painkillers every day. She’d also prepare food and leave it at the living room for him and the medication would make him dizzy.
As for Huang’s death, the gruesome details were revealed by Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zaidy Che Hassan, who said that police found him seated in the toilet with his face towards the toilet bowl, along with a deep cut on his left wrist which exposed the bone.
As no other wounds could be found on Huang, police believe that the cause of death was suicide.
Victim’s wife urges daughter to come home
Huang’s distraught wife added that she has informed her estranged daughter about Huang’s death via WhatsApp but has yet to receive a response.
I hope she can put aside our past misunderstandings and come home to mourn her father’s passing.
According to neighbors, the deceased couple was amiable but rarely talked about their personal affairs. They were also unaware of Huang’s illness until news of his death broke.
It was also learnt that Huang and his wife couple had held a banquet for their daughter’s wedding in 2015, but rarely saw her again after that.
