A 4-year-old girl sustained burns all across her body after a firecracker session went horribly wrong.
NST reported that the incident took place in front of the in front of her house at Kampung Senara, Kubur Panjang in Pendang, Kedah.

Suffered burns to 46% of her body
According to Pendang district police chief Deputy Superintendent Arriz Sham Hamezah, he said the victim, Nur Zatil Hidayah Mohd Tarmizi, was playing with firecrackers with two of her brothers.
While they were playing in front of the house, the parents were said to be watching television at the time.
Suddenly, they heard a loud scream from the victim and ran out of the house, where they found her brothers trying to put out the flames which had covered her body.

Arriz Sham said the father quickly took a pail of water and poured it over Nur Zatil’s body before rushing her to Hospital Pendang, where police were later made aware of the incident at 2.45am.
Police still investigating cause of accident
Arriz Sham added that the victim’s father claimed she got burnt after she was struck by fire emitted from a kerosene lamp while trying to light a firecracker.
However, what really happened will only be known after we have recorded statements from the victim’s two older brothers, because for the time being they are still very traumatised by what happened to their sister.

“We are currently investigating the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for injuries caused by child neglect or abandonment, where it carries a jail sentence of 10 years, a RM20,000 fine, or both,” he said.
The victim was later transferred to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Star for further treatment.
