A four-year-old boy was tragically killed after being hit by a Nissan X-Trail sports utility vehicle (SUV) while crossing the road on Jalan SS 9A/8, Sungai Way yesterday (July 23).
According to Sin Chew Daily, the child isn’t Malaysian and his nationality was not disclosed.
Petaling Jaya district police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said police received a report at 7.27 pm regarding the incident, which occurred at 5.30 pm according to preliminary investigations.
“When the driver of the SUV was passing through the location of the incident, the victim was said to have crossed the road out of the blue, causing the driver to slam the brakes on time and collide with the victim.
“The victim, who sustained injuries, was taken to the University of Malaya Medical Center (PPUM) for treatment and was pronounced dead later,” he said in a statement today.
Mohamad Fakhrudin said that the SUV driver was detained for further investigation before being released on bail.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and urged those who witnessed the incident to assist in investigations by contacting the Traffic Investigating Officer of the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD), Inspector R Navalan at 014-2536820 or visit any nearby police station.
