47yo M’sian Man Sets Parents’ House On Fire After Brother Refuses To Buy Him Cigarettes

Unbelievable.
A drug addict lost his cool and went on to set his parents’ home located in Pokok Sena, Kepala Batas, Penang on fire after his brother refused to buy cigarettes for him.

Kosmo reported that the incident took place at around 9.30pm on Wednesday (Aug 23), where the two-story house comprised of five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen became the target of his rage.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Asri Shafie told the Malay daily that the 47-year-old suspect was a former convict who was released from prison in June for drug-related offenses.

He added that half and hour before the fire, he became extremely angry with his brother who refused to purchase cigarettes for him.

“Unable to tolerate the suspect’s rage, the brother went to lodge a report at the Kepala Batas police station. On the way there, a neighbour called him and said that the suspect had set the house on fire but was apprehended.

“At the time of the incident, the suspect’s mother was at Balik Pulau visiting her daughter,” he said.

The fire destroyed 95% of the house, including four motorcycles and all of the family’s belongings. A neighbour’s house wall was also caught in the inferno as well.

Tested positive for meth

Mohd Asri said the suspect later admitted to the act, where he revealed that he had set the curtains in his bedroom on fire with a lighter until the whole house burnt down.

“Urine tests revealed that he tested positive for methamphetamine and he had 14 previous criminal records.

“He has since been remanded to aid investigations under Section 436 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire.”
