A Kajang man was arrested after venting his frustration over the loudspeaker’s volume during tarawih prayers by kicking down a surau door.

The 46-year-old suspect disrupted the prayers on Sunday, expressing his discontent with the loudspeakers’ noise at a block of flats in Sg Chua.

Living directly behind the surau, the man’s frustrations were captured in a widely circulated TikTok video, where he questioned the possibility of relocating the loudspeaker due to its excessive volume.

The arrest was made following a police report lodged concerning the incident, which occurred at approximately 9.25 pm that evening.

According to The Vibes, preliminary investigations suggested that the suspect, a resident living near the surau, was agitated and infuriated by the surau’s loudspeaker volume.

The police have called on the public not to engage in any speculation that could jeopardize public safety and harmony. They emphasized that appropriate action has been taken in cooperation with the Islamic Religious Department’s district office in Hulu Langat.

Upon assisting in the investigation, the suspect was granted bail on Monday. The case is currently being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code, which pertains to causing damage or defiling a place of worship with the intent to insult the religion of any class.

If convicted, the man could face a maximum prison sentence of two years, a fine, or both.

Moreover, the incident is being examined under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for uploading and disseminating obscene content.
