A three-year-old girl sustained injuries to her mouth and a broken left leg after she was allegedly thrown from the first floor of an apartment in Sungai Pinang, Penang by her uncle.
Her younger sister, a 40-day-old baby, experienced bleeding in the head after she was thrown to the floor by the same relative at the same location.
According to Malaysia Gazette, the incident took place at 3.40pm yesterday (Aug 2), where it was understood that the 29-year-old suspect slit his own right wrist before injuring both of the victims.
Suspect claimed to hear voices
A family member known as Taiyoob, said he heard his mother screaming for help before finding his younger brother (the suspect) naked and covered in blood.
“My brother told me that he had heard voices in his head before he proceeded to injure the children. Everything happened so quickly and I sought help from neighbours while trying to calm my brother down.
“Other family members then went to help my elder sister’s children and rushed them to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
It is also understood that the victims were staying with their grandmother as their mother was still in confinement.
Asks for Privacy
Taiyoob appealed to the public to respect the family’s privacy and not spread rumours about the incident as police conduct investigations.
“We hope that everyone understands the situation and respects the family’s position. The suspect is my own brother and he has been undergoing traditional treatment for health problems for the past two months,” he added.
Meanwhile, Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong confirmed the incident and said it’s currently being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
