36yo M’sian Man Sets Wife On Fire After An Argument & Flees The Scene, Now Wanted By Police

The suspect had four criminal records.
In every family, there will always be arguments and disagreements, but it’s not common for it to escalate to attempted murder.

A woman in Penang was left with burns to her body after her husband poured gasoline and set her on fire before fleeing the scene.

Berita Harian reported that the incident took place at a dormitory located within an oil palm plantation in Tasek Gelugor at 9.30pm on Monday (July 31).

It was understood that the 36-year-old suspect had been married to the victim for 15 years and have four children aged 10 to 15 together.

 Seberang Perai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Asri Shafie said police received a call from a neighbour at 10.45pm and immediately rushed to the scene.

“Our investigations found that the couple’s 13-year-old son had heard them arguing inside a room and tried to see what was going on but was unable to as the door was locked.

“When he finally managed to open the door, he saw that his mother’s body was on fire and his father trying to put it out with a cloth,” he said.

Mohd Asri said the suspect later fled the scene when he saw that the fire was out of control, leaving his son to extinguish the fire with water before calling for an ambulance with a neighbour’s help.

The victim was sent to Hospital Pulau Pinang for treatment and sustained burns to 27% of her body.

Suspect had multiple criminal records

China Press reported that the suspect had four criminal records, where two was for causing voluntary hurt (Section 323), one for criminal intimidation (Section 506), and one for causing hurt with a dangerous weapon (Section 324).

Police are working to track the suspect down and are probing the case under Section 326 for causing grievous hurt.
