Police officers are tasked with upholding the law set in place for everyone to follow as well as punish and apprehend those caught breaking it. But sometimes, even the men in blue can find themselves tangled in crime too.
A police officer was recently charged in court for drug possession and now face jail time and a hefty fine, a charge he denies doing.
31yo M’sian policeman charged with drug possession
According to Harian Metro, the accused, 31-year-old Corporal Mohd Arif Akmal Rahmad was charged at the at the Kuala Pilah Magistrate’s Court in Negri Sembilan yesterday (Oct 25) for possessing drugs for his own personal use.
Based on the charge sheet, he was found to have a dangerous drug in his possession, namely 11-nor-delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carboxylic acid.
The crime was allegedly committed at the Kuala Pilah District Police Headquarters’ (IPD) Narcotics Crime Investigation Division Office at 9.30am on September 11.
The charge was framed under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 15 (1) of the same act, which was read together with Section 38B.
Mohd Arif faces up to two years in jail or a RM5,000 fine and be subjected to a supervision period not less than two years and not more than three years.
The corporal, who was unrepresented in court, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out before Magistrate Saiful Sayoti.
He also requested for a lower bail amount, saying that he had financial responsibilities to fulfil as his wife is unemployed.
Bail was set at RM4,000 with a guarantor and the court set Nov 9 for case re-mention.
