A husband in his 30s has shared his frustration over the financial disagreements in his marriage, despite both him and his wife earning an income.
The couple have two children, but according to the husband, they have never reached a clear agreement on how their income and household expenses should be managed.
Both earn, but manage their money separately
According to the post, the husband said he initially believed that having two incomes would make family life easier.
However, their salaries remained separate, with both parties managing their own money and responsibilities.
When their first child was born, he covered most of the child’s expenses as he could still afford to do so.
After their second child arrived, he began struggling financially and hoped his wife would share more of the burden.
They eventually agreed to each take responsibility for one child, although he claimed that he continued covering several other household expenses.
Money became a frequent source of arguments
According to the husband, money became a common trigger whenever the couple argued.
He previously suggested combining their incomes and planning their finances together, but his wife was allegedly worried that her earnings would be spent.
However, when they continued managing their money separately, she reportedly felt that he was not fulfilling his responsibilities as a husband.
The issue remained unresolved for years and gradually affected their relationship.
Wife allegedly asks him to contribute towards personal expenses
The husband claimed that his wife would occasionally ask him to contribute towards her haircuts, facial treatments and shopping expenses.
Although he did not always agree to pay, he said the repeated requests made him feel increasingly uncomfortable.
He added that he usually covered the costs of their children’s birthday parties and cakes without asking his wife to contribute.
Over time, he began questioning why she continued expecting him to pay more despite having her own monthly income and savings.
Feels anxious about his own savings
Now in his 30s, the husband said he often feels anxious whenever he looks at his savings, while his wife appears to have her own savings plan.
He clarified that he did not object to his wife saving money. Instead, he was troubled by the feeling that they were not working towards the same financial goals.
Whenever they went out together, he claimed that his wife would look towards him and wait for him to make the payment.
This allegedly left him feeling that most of their shared expenses were automatically becoming his responsibility.
The husband once proposed listing both their incomes and fixed expenses before creating a household budget together.
Under his proposal, they would first use their combined income to cover family expenses. Any money left afterwards could then be used freely by each person.
He believed this would prevent repeated arguments over who should pay for certain expenses.
However, his wife reportedly refused to accept the arrangement.
Wife allegedly refused marriage counselling
The husband also suggested attending marriage counselling so that a third party could help them find a financial arrangement acceptable to both sides.
However, his wife allegedly felt that counselling was unnecessary and considered it a waste of money.
He also considered handing over his entire salary for his wife to manage, but worried that he would eventually need her approval for every personal purchase.
The husband stressed that he was not trying to calculate who had contributed more to the family.
Instead, he simply wanted them to share their responsibilities and plan their financial future together instead of constantly standing on opposing sides.
