Orang Asli Village Security Development Committee (JPKKOA) chairman Mohd Sani Nahtiman told the Malay daily that Pisie failed to return home after he went out hunting on Tuesday (Oct 3).
Two villagers then set out to look for him at Kampung Perwer, which was near an oil palm plantation. While there, they found Pisie’s motorcycle, hunting gear, and tiger paw prints.
“Both of them returned and reported their discovery. At around 6pm that day, I rushed to the scene along with 10 other villagers. Starting from the tiger paw prints, three of the villagers and myself tracked for about 500 meters and found the victim’s body,” he said.
Scared tiger away with firecrackers
Mohd Sani added that at 9pm, a group of 20 villagers kept watch near the location where Pisie’s body was found as they wanted to protect it until authorities arrived to take it away.
“At around 4am, the tiger returned, possibly to ‘claim’ the victim’s body. The group then set off firecrackers and made loud noises to scare it away.
“Although they succeeded in scaring it away, it was still seen hanging around the area,” he said.
