What was supposed to be a joyous occasion for a couple slated to be married turned into a tragedy after they were caught in a road accident which left the would-be groom dead.
Astro Awani reported that the accident took place at KM105 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan in Kemaman, Terengganu at 11pm last Saturday (May 13), where it claimed the life of 24-year-old Muhammad Aliff Hafizzudin Samsul.
As for his fiancée Nuralifah Ilyana Azman, she survived but was left severely injured and is currently receiving treatment at the Kemaman Hospital.
Was returning home after buying engagement rings
According to Kemaman police chief Supt Hanyan Ramlan, Aliff was reportedly sending Nuralifah back to her home in Dungun after buying engagement rings.
Unfortunately, a Mazda MPV on the other side of the road suddenly lost control and veered into the couple’s side of the highway, causing the Wira which the couple were in to overturn and crushed by the crash’s impact.
NST further reported that a team of firefighters from the Kerteh Fire and Rescue station were deployed to the scene and pulled the victims from the wreckage after 30 minutes.
Aliff was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers after sustaining injuries to his head and body, where his body was handed over to family members for burial after it was returned by Kemaman Hospital’s forensics department.
Meanwhile, Nuralifah was transferred to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for surgery.
A mother left devastated
The tragedy has since left a gaping hole in Aliff’s mother’s heart, who is still grieving over his sudden passing.
Speaking to NST, Salmah Idrus said she felt inexplicably restless on the night the accident took place but never knew her son would be the victim.
She also said that she struggles not to weep whenever she sees the items bought for the engagement.
I cannot bear to even look at all the things in the house for their engagement because I end up crying thinking about what happened.
The case is currently being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless and dangerous driving.
RIP to the victim and our deepest condolences to the family for their loss.
