The family of a 23-year-old man is deeply worried for his safety after he left the workplace to have lunch and never came back yesterday afternoon (Aug 20).
Compounding their worries was the fact that he had taken his passport with him, leading to fears that he may left the country.
Disappeared during lunchtime
According to Sin Chew Daily, Xie Junying (transliteration) drove a dark grey Toyota Civic bearing the registration number A1780A from his workplace in Taman Pelangi, Johor, to have lunch at around 1pm before vanishing.

Additionally, his last phone call with his family was at 1:53pm yesterday, and his messaging app showed that he was last online at around 2:40pm.
Speaking to the Chinese daily, Xie’s mother said her son works as an operations executive at the family-run company and frequently contacts her to discuss work matters.
“Yesterday, my son called as usual to update me about work. He then told his colleagues that he was going out for lunch but never returned. That was also the last time I spoke to him.
“After I realised he was uncontactable, I went to the police station to make a report. I later discovered that the passport I had kept locked in my safe was missing, but he had never told the family that he planned to travel overseas,” she said.

Xie’s mother added that after checking Facebook, she discovered that Xie had been online sometime between 11pm and midnight last night. She also tried texting and calling him, but got no response.
