22yo M’sian Kayak Athlete Seriously Injured After She Was Knocked Down By Drunk Driver

She suffered a fractured right shoulder, hip bone injuries, and leg wounds.
In a shocking turn of events last Saturday, national kayak athlete Siti Nurul Masyitah Elias, 22, was seriously injured on the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) Highway.

Siti, who was riding a motorcycle heading towards Kota Tinggi, suffered a fractured right shoulder, hip bone injuries, and leg wounds after being hit by a car from behind around 4:30pm at Kilometer 3.5.

Johor Bahru South District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, reported that the collision occurred when the car, initially in the middle lane, swerved unexpectedly to the left, crashing into Siti.

The car’s driver, a man in his thirties, was unharmed and is currently under investigation.

Despite testing negative for drugs, the breathalyzer test showed he was under the influence of alcohol.

Interestingly, the driver has a history of unresolved traffic summonses, though no prior criminal record.

He was detained for 24 hours for further investigation and has since been released on bail.

The case is being handled under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with driving under the influence causing injury.
