2 M’sian Teens Ordered To Clean Toilets For 100 hours After Setting Their Friend On Fire As A Prank

The fatal fire started when one of the teenagers ignited the sofa underneath as part of a prank.

Two 16-year-old boys have been ordered to do 100 hours of community service to clean public toilet after admitting they set fire to a public toilet, which tragically led to their friend’s death in Bandar Puncak Alam Phase 3, last year.

Before Magistrate Siti Hajar Ali, the two accused, whose actions had tragic consequences, confessed to their crime.

In addition to community service, the court imposed a good behaviour bond of RM1,000 on each teenager for two years, and they are required to report to the nearest police station once a month during that period.

The court also placed restrictions on their movements, preventing them from leaving their homes alone between 8pm and 6am, unless accompanied by their parents.

Furthermore, they are obligated to attend a workshop run by the Department of Social Welfare (JKM), Harian Metro reported.

The charges against them revolved around treachery by fire and causing destruction to the public toilets of the futsal court on Jalan Cakera Purnama.

This incident occurred at about 2.47 pm on August 28 of the previous year.

Moral report and recommendations

The charges were filed under Section 436 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same code, which carry a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine.

During the proceedings, JKM submitted a moral report on the two accused and made two recommendations, including good behaviour.

Public advisors, as well as a teacher who offered a statement in the court gallery, reprimanded the actions of the two young men for causing harm to public property and emphasised the negative impact on the victim’s family.

Prior to this ruling, the media had reported that the teenagers’ reckless act of playing with fire had resulted in a fire that claimed the life of their friend.

According to Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis, Muhammad Damin Mikhail Kamsol was tragically trapped in the burning toilet as he had been sleeping on a sofa while his two friends were playing a mobile game inside.

The fatal fire was ignited when one of the teenagers decided to play a cruel prank by setting the sofa on fire from underneath.
