Malaysians planning to balik kampung or go on holiday soon may want to plan their journey early.
According to China Press, PLUS Malaysia Berhad has advised highway users to prepare for heavier traffic between May 22 and June 7, as several public holidays and the mid year school break are expected to overlap.
The period includes Hari Raya Haji on May 27, Wesak Day on May 31, and the Yang di Pertuan Agong’s Birthday on June 1.

Traffic expected to hit 2.2mil vehicles daily
In a statement, PLUS said traffic on the North South Expressway is expected to rise to around 2.2 million vehicles per day during the holiday period.
The East Coast Expressway 2, also known as LPT2, is also expected to record up to 50,000 vehicles daily.
PLUS said traffic on national highways is expected to peak throughout the travel period, especially as many Malaysians may be travelling for festive celebrations, school holidays, or short getaways.

Peak travel dates from Klang Valley
According to PLUS, the peak dates for users leaving the Klang Valley are expected to fall on: May 22, 23, 26, 28, 29, 30 and 31.
Meanwhile, traffic heading back to the Klang Valley is expected to be heaviest on: June 4, 5, 6 and 7.
Highway users are advised to refer to the MyPLUS TTA Digital Travel Schedule through the PLUS App and follow the recommended travel times to help reduce congestion.
Smart lanes to open at 33 locations
To cope with the expected increase in vehicles, PLUS said it has made preparations to manage traffic flow throughout the period.
This includes activating Smart Lanes at 33 strategic locations to increase lane capacity.
PLUS will also deploy more than 500 PLUSRonda and LPT2Ronda personnel for 24 hour patrols.
All lanes at major toll plazas will also be opened to optimise operations.
Drivers reminded to prepare before travelling
PLUS said it is also working with the police, Road Transport Department and Malaysian Highway Authority to maintain safety during the festive and holiday period.
Drivers are encouraged to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before starting their journey.
They should also make sure their Touch ’n Go cards or eWallets have sufficient balance.
