A 19-year-old university student was brutally murdered in cold blood and her body was found dumped by the roadside in Kampung Simah, Ketereh on Thursday (Apr 30).
According to NST, the victim’s body had a total of 61 stab wounds all across the face to the legs, with most of them concentrated on the right side.
She was found clad in a black long-sleeved shirt and black pants, along with a necklace bearing the name “Syaa”, a bracelet and a ring.
Several items including coloured beads, a pair of white spectacles and a scarf were also recovered by police. However, no identification documents were found at the scene.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said preliminary investigations suggested that the victim was killed elsewhere before her body was dumped in a dark paddy field area about 47 metres from the nearest house.
Following fingerprint checks by the National Registration Department, the victim was identified as Nurfisya Zulkifly.
Alleged jealousy
Yusoff added that police believe jealousy was what led Nurfisya being stabbed multiple times.
Initial investigations showed that an argument broke out between the victim and the suspect, where she was allegedly stabbed while inside the suspect’s car.”
A total of four suspects, including Nurfisya’s 19-year-old boyfriend and his friend, were arrested. The suspect’s parents were detained as well.
The suspect and his friend were remanded for seven days, while the suspect’s parents were remanded for three days.
Police are probing the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, and whipping upon conviction.
‘Please give us space’
Following the tragedy, Nurfisya’s grieving family have requested the media to give them space to fully process the incident.
An unnamed uncle told NST that the family was still in shock and not in a position to speak further about the stabbing.
He added that the family had just returned from Kelantan and were physically and emotionally exhausted.
“We haven’t slept, we haven’t eaten, and we’re extremely exhausted from the journey. Please give us some space.
“It’s not that we don’t want to cooperate with journalists, but we are afraid we might say things we shouldn’t in this situation. We hope everyone can understand and allow us time to calm down first,” he explained.
