Depression is often called the ‘silent killer’ as, unlike other diseases, it often doesn’t manifest itself until the victim makes the drastic decision to end his/her life.
A young man’s life nearly came to a tragic conclusion after he attempted to jump off an apartment but was ultimately saved by a group of firefighters who spent much time convincing him otherwise.
Wanted to jump off 3rd floor of apartment
According to a statement by Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Morni Mamat, they received a distress call at 12.23am today about an 18-year-old teen who wanted to jump off the 3rd floor of an apartment in Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya.
When the firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the teen sitting at the edge of the window and discovered that he wanted to end his life due to family problems.
Fortunately, his suicide attempt was successfully averted by the firefighters, who spent two hours convincing him to come back into the house.
After bringing the teen to safety, the firefighters handed him over to police for further action.
Depression often goes undetected and may be hard to spot. Do keep a lookout for the following symptoms:
