A couple’s repeated late-night visits to a surau toilet in Kulim, Kedah, raised suspicion among villagers and eventually led to them being caught by local residents.
The incident reportedly happened at around 1.30am, after villagers decided to check the surau toilet following concerns over the couple’s behaviour.

Kulim District Religious Enforcement Officer Anwar Sharifudin Mat Saad said members of the public had noticed the pair heading to the surau late at night more than once.
According to him, villagers suspected that the couple might have been engaging in immoral acts after seeing them going to the surau during late-night and early-morning hours.
“People suspected they were committing immoral acts because they had gone to the surau late at night more than two or three times.
“When checks were carried out, the couple was found inside the toilet in a half-dressed state,” he said.

Further questioning found that the two were not husband and wife.
The male suspect, aged 18, is from Sungai Kob, Karangan, and reportedly works at a nasi lemak stall.
His partner, a 15-year-old girl from Changlun, was said to be living in Sungai Ular with her aunt.
Anwar said the pair had only known each other for about a week after meeting at the workplace.
Following the discovery, villagers contacted the surau chairman before informing religious enforcement officers.
Anwar added that the incident was first noticed by members of the public and villagers from a nearby food stall, who had frequently seen the pair going to the surau late at night.
The couple is now being investigated under Section 25(a)(b) of the Kedah Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 2014 for suspected khalwat.
