A 17-year-old teen was apprehended for allegedly smuggling 25 illegal Burmese immigrants from Kelantan to Kuala Lumpur with a black Toyota Vellfire, reported Bernama.
Sentul district police chief ACP Beh Eng Lai said the suspect was spotted driving the vehicle in a suspicious manner by a police team at Taman Manjoi 3, Taman Sri Kuching around 12.05pm yesterday (Aug 3).
He added that the teen refused to stop when ordered to do so and caused the Vellfire to skid and crash into three cars and a motorcycle before fleeing.
“The group of undocumented foreigners, comprising 19 men and 5 women from Myanmar who were aged between 15 and 39, were found in the vehicle.
“Our investigations found that the suspect and his friend, who also fled the scene, were charging the illegal immigrants a fee of RM6,000 each to transport them from Rantau Panjang, Kelantan, to Kuala Lumpur at 3am on Tuesday (Aug 2),” he said in a statement.
Beh added that police checks also revealed the suspect was a school dropout and didn’t have a driver’s license while driving the Vellfire with a fake registration number.
All parties involved has since been remanded to assist the investigation.
