Navigator APP “Waze” has led a 14-year-old girl who lost her way home on a motorcycle to being arrested for underage driving at Sungai Besi Toll last night (26 Oct).
The teenage girl without a driving license said she sneaked on her brother’s motorcycle out of the house to go to a friend’s house in Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya.
This is her second time going to her friend’s house from her at Semenyih.
“I got lost because I used ‘Waze’; otherwise, I used a shortcut which is also a highway, to get back to my house,” she told Kosmo!
Sungai Besi Toll Operation
The 14-year-old was among those arrested in the JPJ Integrated Road Safety Advocacy at the Sungai Besi Toll last night (26 Oct).
JPJ Director General Datuk Zailani Hashim said 98 members from JPJ, PDRM, the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) and the North-South Highway were involved in the operation, which started from 8 pm to 12 midnight last night.
“In the operation, 2,282 vehicles of various types, including buses, vans, cars and motorcycles, were checked, and 152 vehicles were taken into action, including four vehicles confiscated.
“A total of 297 summons notices were issued for various offences, including no road tax or expired road tax, which recorded among the highest offences other than the offence of not having a driver’s license,” he said at a press conference regarding the operation.
Zailani said that no road or expired road tax is one of the main mistakes that road users often make for all types of vehicles.
He explained that most of the reasons received from motorists for committing the offence are the same, either not realizing the expiry date or not having the time to renew their road tax.
Most vehicles with expired road tax do not have insurance too.
“This will cause inconvenience to many parties in the event of an accident with the vehicle. Therefore, we need to take action against those who do not comply with the rules,” he said.
